ABOUT

Soccer in the Park started in 2021 by two local moms, Courtney and Kaitlyn. After a year of shut downs and isolation, Kaitlyn’s oldest son, was struggling with signs of depression and needed healthy connection with his peers. After searching for solutions, there wasn’t anything that fit the mold of what they were looking for, so they came up with a plan to start something on their own. The Lord led them to Covington Neighborhood Park where on the first Thursday of soccer kick arounds they had 10 kids show up. After passing a couple paper flyers to families in the neighborhood, it continued to grow weekly from there!

As summer approached, they felt the Lord asking them to continue their mission by hosting a week long summer camp. Little did they realize what they were stepping into, but it was a wonderful journey to see the hands and feet of Jesus in motion. The 1st annual Soccer in the Park summer camp was held July 2021 with 125 campers and over 60 volunteers serving! To close out camp, there was a neighborhood barbecue where over 400 people were fed and the gospel of hope was shared!

The heart behind Soccer in the Park is to encourage and empower children to understand these four truths about their identity in Jesus Christ:

1. They are Created - “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalms‬ ‭139:14‬ ‭

2. They are Chosen - “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭

3. They are Christ’s - “But now, this is what the Lord says— He who created you, Jacob, He who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah‬ ‭43:1‬

4. They are Called - “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭
